Director of Engineering & Technology Operations
Location: Seabrook, NH or South Hackensack, NJ (Hybrid – Minimum 3 Days Onsite) Compensation: $175,000–$250,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonus Industry: Telecommunications / Wireless Infrastructure / Engineering Technology
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Director of Engineering & Technology Operations to provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple technical disciplines, including embedded systems engineering, business applications development, IT operations, test automation, and product support.

This is a unique succession-planning opportunity where the successful candidate will assume leadership responsibilities currently held by a long-tenured technology executive. The role requires a rare blend of technical depth, leadership maturity, business acumen, and operational decision-making.

The ideal candidate is not simply an engineering manager or software leader. This individual will lead diverse technical teams, oversee technology investments, make critical business decisions, and serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.

What You'll Be Responsible For Engineering Leadership
  • Lead and develop multi-disciplinary engineering teams spanning:
    • Embedded Systems
    • Firmware Development
    • Business Applications
    • Test Automation
    • Technical Product Support
  • Provide oversight for product architecture, system design, and software development initiatives.
  • Guide technical direction for wireless, RF, embedded, and connected device technologies.
  • Mentor technical leaders and engineers across multiple locations.
Technology Operations & IT Governance
  • Oversee enterprise technology operations and infrastructure through local technical teams.
  • Review and approve technology investments, software licensing, cloud spending, and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Evaluate business cases for technology expenditures and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with executive leadership on long-term technology planning and cost optimization.
  • Support cloud-based services, web applications, Azure-hosted systems, and business-critical infrastructure.
Business Applications & Process Automation
  • Lead teams responsible for internally developed business systems supporting:
    • Manufacturing operations
    • Product lifecycle management
    • Quality assurance
    • Inventory tracking
    • Service and repair operations
    • ERP/operational workflow systems
  • Drive process improvements and technology-enabled efficiencies throughout the organization.
Strategic Leadership
  • Manage geographically dispersed teams across North America.
  • Participate in budgeting, resource planning, vendor management, and technology roadmapping.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align technology investments with business objectives.
  • Serve as a key decision-maker for operational, technical, and financial initiatives.

Required Qualifications Leadership Experience
  • 10+ years of engineering leadership experience.
  • Proven direct management experience, including:
    • Hiring
    • Performance management
    • Employee development
    • Organizational planning
    • Difficult employee situations and conflict resolution
  • Experience managing multi-site or distributed teams.
Technical Background
  • Strong background in embedded systems, firmware, or product engineering.
  • Experience leading the development of hardware/software integrated products.
  • Working knowledge of system architecture, networking protocols, and product lifecycle development.
  • Ability to lead highly specialized technical teams without being the day-to-day technical contributor.
Business & Financial Acumen
  • Experience managing budgets, capital expenditures, vendor relationships, and technology investments.
  • Ability to evaluate ROI and build business cases for technical initiatives.
  • Comfortable making independent operational and financial decisions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Telecommunications, wireless, RF, antenna, IoT, networking, or electronics industry experience.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Embedded Linux
    • ARM-based platforms
    • Wireless communication systems
    • Networking protocols
    • Cloud technologies (Azure/AWS)
    • PCB design and hardware development processes
  • Experience supporting both engineering organizations and enterprise technology functions.
