Key responsibilities of a Lead DAS technician are but are not limited:
Installation:
· Installing DAS antennas, cables (coaxial and fiber optic), and head-end equipment according to project plans.
· Mounting antennas and securing DAS components in designated locations.
· Pulling, terminating, and testing cables to ensure proper connectivity.
Testing and Troubleshooting:
· Performing signal strength measurements using RF spectrum analyzers to assess coverage and identify weak areas.
· Diagnosing and resolving issues with DAS components like amplifiers, combiners, and power supplies.
· Conducting line sweeping and PIM (Passive Intermodulation) testing to identify potential signal interference.
· Maintenance and Repair:
· Performing routine maintenance checks on DAS systems to ensure optimal performance.
· Identifying and replacing faulty components as needed.
· Responding to service calls to address system malfunctions
Documentation and Reporting:
· Maintaining detailed records of installation details, test results, and any maintenance activities.
· Preparing reports for project managers outlining system status and findings
Required skills and knowledge:
· Understanding of RF signal propagation and cellular network principles
· Proficiency in using RF test equipment like spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and PIM analyzers
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
· Knowledge of cable termination techniques for coaxial and fiber optic cables
· Basic understanding of electrical systems and safety protocols
· Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Work environments:
· Commercial buildings like office towers, shopping malls, hospitals
· Large venues like convention centers, stadiums
· Construction sites during building installations
