Job Description
We’re looking for a skilled Copper Technician to join our telecommunications team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of copper-based services, including POTS, DSL, and other legacy or hybrid technologies. You’ll work across a variety of environments—from residential homes to commercial sites and outside plant infrastructure—to ensure reliable and high-quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:

Install, maintain, and repair copper-based voice and data services (e.g., POTS, DSL)

Troubleshoot copper cable faults in aerial, underground, and buried environments
-
Perform splicing, bonding, grounding, and testing of copper cables
-
Operate test equipment such as TDRs, volt/ohm meters, and transmission testers
-
Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work orders
-
Install network interface devices (NIDs), jacks, inside wiring, and CPE
-
Maintain accurate service records, including test results and repair logs
-
Ensure all work complies with industry codes, safety standards, and company policies
-
Communicate effectively with customers, teammates, and supervisors
-
Respond to outages, service escalations, and emergency repairs as needed
-
Adhere to safety guidelines and utilize proper PPE at all times
Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or GED required
-
1–3 years of experience in copper telecommunications preferred
-
Proficiency in copper cable construction, repair, and testing practices
-
Hands-on experience with POTS, DSL, HDSL, and bonding/grounding techniques
-
Familiarity with both outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) environments
-
Ability to operate hand tools and telecommunications diagnostic equipment
-
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
-
Strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills
-
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and participating in on-call rotations
